Dragonhold Mission Loop

From hub departure to secure extraction — how a full Azarkeen run is structured.

Dragonhold Mission Loop — Azarkeen Run Structure

Every session in Dragonhold by Exis Games follows a repeatable mission loop — not an endless open-world grind. You live on a private hub island, accept structured excursions into Azarkeen, fight on dragonback and on foot, loot under pressure, then extract anytime the mission allows to secure rewards back at Dragonhold castle. Understanding where each phase begins and ends helps you align Hand of Fate modifiers, build choices, and castle projects without treating every death as random bad luck.

This page is the structural backbone of the Extraction hub. Pair it with Getting Started if the hub itself is unfamiliar, and How to Extract for tactical exit timing.

Phase 1: Hub preparation

The loop starts on your hub island, not in Azarkeen combat.

Inventory and loadout review — Equip upgrades from last extract, restock consumables, and confirm your build matches tonight’s goal via Beginner Build or specialized pages in Gear Priority.

Mission selection — Pick a quest aligned with castle needs: Anchor Stones from mainline progress in How to Rebuild the Castle, materials for Town Buildings, or gear farms on the Azarkeen map.

Hand of Fate read — Fate cards deal before departure. They modify difficulty, rewards, and hazards for this run only. Never skip reading them; Hand of Fate explains common patterns.

Party sync (co-op) — Agree extract vocabulary, loot rules, and host stability if using a Dedicated Server. Solo riders set personal win/loss caps instead.

Use Extract Checklist before grouped launches.

Phase 2: Departure to Azarkeen

Travel transitions you from safe hub space to Director-managed danger. Mounted departure is standard — aerial scouting reveals early chests and elite packs without committing to ground traps.

During transit, note extract-related landmarks: high ground for egress, open fields for breath clears, chokepoints that trap dismounted riders. Flight Controls mastery pays here.

Fate modifiers may alter spawn density or environmental hazards immediately on arrival. Adjust depth plans before engaging the first camp — what worked last run may be suicidal tonight.

Phase 3: Objective execution

Missions contain primary objectives (quest steps, boss gates, Anchor Stone progress) and optional depth (side chests, elites, exploration pockets in Expedition Zones).

Primary path first — Secure mission-critical progress while potions and stamina are fresh.

Controlled optional depth — Add side objectives only when inventory value, Fate bonuses, and egress routes align. Risk vs Reward frames how much optional content is rational.

Combat rhythm — Dragon breath softens packs; dismount for interiors and precision mechanics per Ground Combat. Remount before overworld linger triggers AI Director escalations — hordes, stampeding packs, surprise mini-bosses.

Loot triage — Evaluate pickups against gear priority, not rarity glow alone. Bag space is time.

Phase 4: Extract decision and execution

Extraction is the loop’s payoff gate. Dragonhold emphasizes you can extract at any time once the option is available — you need not 100% clear Azarkeen to keep loot.

Trigger extract when:

  • Win conditions from hub prep are met.
  • Potions, stamina, or party health cross loss thresholds.
  • Director spikes follow prolonged linger or farming.
  • Fate timers or escalating modifiers shorten safe windows.

Execute extract with aerial awareness — tired dragons and blocked valleys kill full bags. How to Extract lists field signals in detail.

Failed extracts (death before secure exit) teach timing but waste momentum; bias toward banking while learning.

Phase 5: Hub payout and progression

Successful extraction returns you to the hub with secured inventory.

Immediate sorting — Equip upgrades, stash crafting mats, salvage junk.

Castle spend — Place Anchor Stones restoring castle wings (Anchor Stones), construct town plots, unlock Crafting Stations.

Craft and plan — Turn materials into reliable power via Crafting instead of hoping next Fate run drops perfect gear.

Next Fate read — Modifiers change every departure; revisit build and depth plans before re-launching.

Loop variants: solo vs co-op

Solo loop — Shorter objective chains, earlier extracts, self-sustain builds. How to Play Solo tunes pacing.

Co-op loop — Role specialization, shared loot calls, longer controlled pushes when one rider suppresses from air. Communication replaces solo intuition at extract time.

Both modes share castle progress on appropriate save/server setups — confirm host rules during Early Access.

Loop mistakes that stall progression

  • Skipping Fate read — deploying blind into hard modifiers.
  • Optional depth before primary — Anchor Stone quests incomplete while farming side chests.
  • No extract plan — greed default kills streaks.
  • Hub neglect — extracted loot never becomes stations or stones.
  • Ignoring Director feedback — repeated spikes mean extract earlier, not fight harder.

The Dragonhold mission loop rewards riders who treat each phase as intentional — hub decisions echo in Azarkeen, and extract decisions echo on the skyline when Anchor Stones restore another wing. Master the loop, then depth becomes choice instead of accident.
